Life has a grand and mysterious way of laying things in your lap, at the precise moment you need them. Point in case: just a moment ago, I was looking at my 'Article Statistics' and wondering what in the world happened to all my readers. I wrote a few emails (to those I thought might offer honest critiques) and then...as 'fate' would have it, I found an article by the lovely Sandra E. Graham talking about 'Ratings'. Funny. How did she know? How come I found this piece at this precise moment? Funny stuff indeed.
I laid on the floor and let her pick the toy she wanted to play with. I watched as the prisms from the many crystals I have danced across her body while we played. I marvelled at the beauty of the moment. And we played. And played. And played until she dashed off like some crazed creature...to her food dish to have a snack. Funny stuff.
As I laid on the floor, listening to her munch on her kibble, I was overwhelmed with a deep sense of gratitude. I was touched to tears. I was humbled by her presence in my life. I was, in every sense of the word, 'taken'. This incredible creature chose ME. She chose me to live with, stay with, play with, and...most of all, LOVE with. She is, by every stretch of words, an ANGEL. And she chose ME!
After a few minutes, I decided to open up the laptop and return to my 'work'. I decided that it doesn't really matter...the ratings or the reads or the accolades. What matters is that I write. I write, even if only 17 people read what I write. I write, even if it means nobody reads it. I write because it makes me happy. And, as Joseph Campbell once said "follow you bliss".
I'm following, Joseph. I promise. And, one day, very soon, it will matte to more than just me. For now, I'm happy to have a brain with which to deciper the language of my heart. And I hope, now and forever, that more people will find my words...my little 'paintings'...a comfort, an inspiration...a joy.
