A Brand New Start ~

For whatever reason, we seem to find more motivation to begin anew when the new year rolls in. Not sure why we have to wait for January 1st, but whatever it takes, huh? I believe in new beginnings, although I don't think we need to limit them to any particular day. One can begin anew on any day...or, perhaps, every day. Because, after all, every day is a new beginning.

Some folks do the New Year's Resolutions thing...writing down all the things they wish to change, accomplish, etc. Other folks just make a simple pact with themselves to "do better". And still others ignore the whole ritual entirely, carrying on as they have the day before and the day before that. Regardless of your preference, one thing is certain: a new year means we can wipe the slate clean and move onward with a sense of renewal, anticipation and expectations for greater everything.

I love the imagery of "a new slate". I love blank canvasses...and fresh starts. I love the idea of leaving all the ICK behind and waking up with a new perspective. I also happen to love rituals. So, rather than waiting for January 1st, I tend to reflect upon the past year and the new one about to arrive on the Winter Solstice (December 21st). I spend some time thinking about what I have already accomplished and what I wish to create. I spend even more time in that lovely grace of gratitude (space) so I'm able to create even more gratitude. And on and on it goes.

This new year holds a plethora of opportunity. Why? Cuz I said so! And, for what it's worth, I do believe that's about all it takes. Just because "I said so"...is what makes my dreams come to fruition...regardless of the day. Know what I mean? I'm pretty sure this isn't news. I'm also pretty sure that those who follow this tenet are much better at creation. So, I've made up my mind to continue to create my world...as I have in the past and as I am right now in this moment. It's my world and I can live it any way I want.

Now there's a 'resolution'!

Here's to keeping it simple...and enjoying every single moment along the way.

Great article and I couldn't agree more. I just read an article that illustrated the author's feeling that fear would be the main thrust of 2009. I'm not going to go down that path. I much prefer your approach.

Good for YOU, Dianne! Yes, I saw that article and also chose not to read it (even though I really love his work)...fear is such a prominent factor these days...and it's something I truly do believe should be ignored...and I mean that. The antidote to fear? Is LOVE. I just read something that really clarified all that for me. "Once you understand the laws of the universe, you'll never again wonder what's coming or why. You'll KNOW that it's all about your focus." I just LOVE that!

Gee, I sure feel sorry for THAT guy! I have never agreed with the "ignore it and it will go away" mantra. It is always better to see things for the way they are. It is the only way to work through anything. I did enjoy your article, though.

Well now...there's a conversation just begging to happen! So...how about this? It's NOT about "ignoring it and it will go away". It's more like "I see things for the way they are...cuz I CREATED them". Hmmmmmmm. Kinda the ol' "it's my world and I can make it the way I want". If what you "see" is fear, then that, dear Ken, is EXACTLY what you get. I do so love your thoughts, though. And I'm also grateful that you read mine. Honest! Happy New Year, you funny, articulate genius!

My kids hate it when I say "cause I said so" but I like your take on the familiar standby when you are not really exactly sure why or how things ought to or might be! lol

I'm laughing as I type...as I recall all the many times my dad said the same thing, to which I'd respond (with my usual sassiness!), "well, that's not a reason". He didn't much care for that (& this was a VERY Italian daddy who was "king"...and questions were not typically tolerated!). I think it's terrific that you keep a sense of humor about it. Your kids will thank you for it one day. I promise!
