A Persuasive Argument ~ Joy Versus Misery

In the words of Abe Lincoln, "every man has the right to be as happy or as miserable as he chooses".

Wise words indeed. It appears that Mr. Lincoln knew about choices, in varying degrees, and chose himself to exercise said choices over and over (even to his demise). The 'argument' of the day is: Joy versus Misery. So then, which is the better choice?

As simple (and perhaps, silly) as this may sound, it's quite surprising to see just how many people choose misery. But the question is why? Is it something we are programmed to do? Or perhaps, somewhere along the way we have forgotten we have the choice at all? Following are this writer's opinions on the merits of choosing Joy:

On the flip side of said argument ~ Misery:

In short, it is this writer's opinion that when given the choice (always), Joy is by far the better path to walk. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Hi Camille.

"Misery is about as much fun as a thousand fleas in one's armpits." I love this one! I've been miserable from time to time and that says it all. Always, after I'm done being miserable, I wonder why I held on to it for so long. Usually, it's an ego thing.  Bad me.

Loved your article!

I'm still not sure if joy is ALWAYS a choice, but you are encouraging!

Hi Camille,

I buy this lock, stock and barrel! I believe we always have a choice to choose joy over misery. I have done it. There are times when it seems that misery in the form of depression wants to wipe me out. I feel it in my soul. It's frightening and I have chosen NOT to succumb to it and do what I know to do to receive the joy our Maker meant for us to have. Cami, it works every time! I did it yesterday.

I know joy is from Christ and misery from the devil. I'm with Christ and against the devil. Because of this, I seek the remedy for what ails me when misery tries to take over from Christ.

This is my story. It's no lie. It works and I'm sticking to it, too!

Thank YOU! I agree too, that misery adds years to our days but joy as years to our lives.

My best,
Avis
