The Strong Rope of Trust

It's easy to trust whilst things are good. When you're in your groove and everything seems to be flowing like warm chocolate, there's no reason to doubt whatever you happen to believe in. Whether it's Cosmic Justice, Karma, God, Jehovah, Allah, Micky Mouse, Fate, Destiny, Luck, or some Magic Beans. When the goin' is good, Trust is a piece of cake.

The thing is, when that flow isn't a-flowin' like you want it to, Trust is the rudder that helps you turn your boat back with the current of All That Is Good. It is by virtue of Trust that we can clear away the tangle of Doubt and make our way back to the open seas where all manner of Goodness awaits. It's always there, that Goodness. ALWAYS. It is our Creepy Doubt that keeps us from seeing it. It is our illusion of (linear) time that makes us anxious and fearful. We think that everything should happen when we want it to happen, and if it doesn't we go into panic mode. What we fail to realize is that Time is illusory. The Universe knows no time. The Universe operates with a precision that is far beyond what our puny human brains can fathom. Time has nothing to do with Joy. As so many 'masters' are fond of reminding us: our power is in the NOW. When we can allow ourselves this moment and let go of the ones that have yet to arrive, we are effectively releasing all manner of Doubt, Fear, and other nasty Demons. Whether or not this is 'easy' or 'hard' is absolutely up to us.

Case in point:

A sister of mine is a metal artisan. She makes exquisite jewelry as well as metal sculptures. She is a brilliant, talented, passionate woman who has honed her craft for many years. As with many artists, she's often deals with the ol' “feast or famine" dilemma. As a result, whenever she is in 'famine' mode, she makes herself crazy with worry. She goes into full-blown Fear mode and spirals down that nasty tunnel of Doubt. And then...she exhausts herself with all that nonsense, throws her hands to the sky and lets it all go. The MOMENT she does, all manner of 'feast' comes flyin' in. Happens every time.

Recently she was invited to a huge show in the Bay Area where only the best of the best are given space to display their wares and further expand their audience. She's been applying to this show for several years, so when the letter came that she'd been accepted, she was thrilled to her toes. This is one of those shows that can launch an artist into the heavenly realms of fame and fortune. Endless possibilities.

So, she went into major production mode. She also began to see that there were all kinds of 'weeds' that needed to be removed from her life in general. Weeds that were sucking the life out of her. You know the ones (thank you, Bing Limousin, for the wonderful analogy!) ~ those people who take and take and take, with nary a nod of thanks or appreciation. ICKY energy vampires. She saw it all with acute clarity and began to clean up the mess that she had, for many years, allowed into her life. All the while, she was creating her stunning collections.

Immediately prior to the show she also found the perfect apartment; I'm talking 3 days before the show. She was so excited, and so happy, she called me crying. Tears of joy. It'd been quite a long time since she'd had her 'own' place and the joy in her voice was palpable. “Now all I have to do is have a bang-up weekend at the show and I'll have what I need to move next week."

So there it was. All the pieces were falling into place. She'd cleaned up her mess, created a host of stunning pieces, found the perfect place to live and was all a-glow with her manifestations.

Day one of the show proved to be 'slow'. She was a bit discouraged but chose to stay upbeat. Day two proved to be only slightly more lucrative. On day three I phoned her early in the morning to offer encouragement, and a few thoughts she might like to carry with her through the day. I reminded her that even if she didn't sell as much as she'd hoped, it did not mean that those orders wouldn't come in the days to follow. Most of the patrons of this show were retailers. So many of them will look but not buy on the spot. It's happened with other shows she's done. Few sales on site; huge sales in the weeks that followed. I figured she could use that reminder, along with “Delay does not mean DENIAL. You just gotta trust that you've done the work, the work is fabulous, and YOUR MONEY WILL COME! So just go and HAVE FUN! Quit thinking about the money part. It's yours and you know it. Let it go, Chiquita!"

When day three ended, she called with an update. Yes, she had a bang-up day. Yes, she sold most of what she'd brought to the show. And YES, there were many orders for more. In all, she not only made the money she wanted to secure her new place, but she had FUN to boot.

Gee. What a surprise.

She went on to tell me that it was entirely about her shift in attitude. She'd fallen into that ugly abyss of Fear and had forgotten that she had a rope to pull herself out. She told me that when I'd called that morning “you hit me on the head with that rope. I grabbed it with a grin and heaved myself out. That was all I needed to make the shift."

Trust is a funny thing. Sometimes we need to be reminded. Sometimes we need a hand. Sometimes we need a helicopter! But it's always there for us, if we will just take a moment. ONE MOMENT. Stop where we stand and let go the Fear. Tell it to take a hike. Grab hold the rope that hangs right there in front of us...and ride that sucker to the sky. It sure makes for a fun ride. And it beats the hell out of the alternative!

Thanks Camille. Excellent article. Is there ianything in the world of form that can be trusted? Is the entire universe in constant flux and uncertainty? Must we then trust in whatever illusions we can muster up? But are these in flux and uncertain as well?

Trust and hope. Must both be abandoned before we can become truly free? Must the trusting and hoping illusion that is self be abandoned, as difficult as that would be?

BOYHOWDY. You sure do get in deep, don't ya? Love your thought-provocations. Prefer to keep it lighter these days. But thanks for taking the time. And for being so YOU.

Just what I needed to hear...again. Thanks! Funny how the things we "know" can so easily elude us, isn't it?

I like to refer to this as 'forgetting' as opposed to "knowing". I'm convinced we know EVERYTHING. Mostly, we just forgot. Want proof? Look into a newborn baby's eyes. It's right there. Honest!

Thanks for reading, Joyce. Always lovely to hear from you!

Good point, and I do agree. Especially after looking into the eyes of my great niece, when her head and eyes were the only thing visible. Think I'll write about it...soon, I hope. :)

Camille, Well stated, entertaining and an exposition of truth-attitude is everything.

Remind her to ask her Art if when she creates, does its pain lead to its beauty? Hey, next time I get a mediocre idea for an article I will send you the theme so’s you can write it proper-like, elevating it to the level of art-we’ll split the proceeds.

Your writing is like looking at a beautiful painting, I thoroughly enjoy looking at it. Either you are very experienced, or the sheer goodness of your heart is shining through. Beautiful blog as well, I suggest anyone that has not seen it take a look. Looking forward to more.

David ~ A thousand thanks, Sir. Such a beautiful thing to say. I am deeply grateful for your kind words and your taking the time to visit my blog. "Experienced"...some might say. I prefer to think it's the latter. Either way, I do appreciate your lovely thoughts.

Hugs~

It's wonderful you were there to offer your sister encouragement when she needed it! We've all been there, and it sure helps to have caring people like you around to give us that little extra push. I believe you're right Camille, some times you just have to let it go, and trust things will work out the way they should. Great article.

Thanks, Brianna! It's a fun thing to 'witness' AND to live. (although it may be a bit 'challenging' at times...but that's part of the fun, eh?)

Although I would not advice placing trust in Mickey Mouse, I agree with you! Although so many trust in "something" when times are good and call upon God when the stuff hits the fan.

One of my biggest 'peeves' about folks who claim high faith in their God. How come you only talk to God when you're in trouble? Isn't it supposed to be a 'relationship'??? And...by the way funny guy....Mickey is pretty trust-worthy. So what if he has a funny voice?!

Hey, Mickey and I are tight. I happen to have a picture of him and me! and my kids too, but you know what I mean!
